Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
The German-American exchange program celebrates a threefold anniversary today. Departing from the Rhein-Main airport, thirty two year old translator Hilda Wiehers from Essen was the 10,000th German to leave her home in order to spend a three-month study trip in the United States. It is the 500th flight to bring a study group to the USA, with the first being five years ago today. Pictured: Radiant with joy, Ms. Wiehers flings her arms around flight captain Pretsch's neck when he greets her before boarding the plane.

Photo measures 5.75 x 8 inches.

Photo is dated 2-3-1954.
