1965 Press Photo Kangaroo Ship For Development Program Of Hamburg Big Wharf

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
The Kangaroo-Ship is in the first place for the development-program of a Hamburg big wharf. The drafts for this new type are already finished as well as the model (our photo). The ship shall contain 25 barges each barge is 20m long, 7,35 m broad, 3,50 m high and is able to carry 300 tons. The loaded barges sail in the back of the carrier ship in a kind of look chamber where they are taken up by a gantry crane and put down into the mother ship. With this Kangaroo ship 25 little ships can together at once be transported across the Atlantic what means that the long harbour times for the expensive cargo ships can be essentially shortened.

Photo measures 8.25 x 6 inches.

Photo is dated 11-11-1965.
