Japan Opens World's Biggest Shipyard. The world's largest shipyard, which can build three mammoth tankers at the same time, was opened this week at Nagasaki, Japan by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The one-miIiion-ton facility cost 40,000 million Yen (£50 million)., and is 990 meters in length, 100-meters in width, and has two 600-ton gantry cranes. The company will have 10 vessels to build this year in the 260,000-class. Next year a repair dock will be added to take ships up to 500,000-ton.
