Historic sale at Sotheby's seven impressionists paintings sold for £781,000: Seven impressionist paintings were sold for £781,000 in 21 minutes at Sotheby's last night. Six of them will go to America, and the seventh was bought by a London dealer. The top price of £220,000 paid for Cezanne's "Boy in Red Waistcoat" more than doubled the world record of £104,000 paid for a Gaugin in Paris last year. It was bought by Mr.Georgen Keller, of the Carstairs Gallery, New York, Van Gogh's "Public Garden at Arles" sold for £132,000, and Manet's "Flags in the Rue Monsier", £113,000, also beat the old record.The total of £781,000 was another world record. Last night's sale was of pictures from the estate of the New York millionaire, Mr.Jacob Goldschmidt. Photo shows Van Gogh's "Jardin Public a Arles", one of the collection of paintings which was sold to Mr Rosenberg for the second highest price of £132,000 at Sotheby's last night.
