24 killed in landslide near Tokyo: Twenty-four persons were killed, and sixteen injured in a huge landslide disaster at Kawasaki, between Tokyo and Yokohama, when a hill composed of cinders dumped there by a thermal plant,and loosened by torrential rain, thundered down in an avalanche engulfing 15 houses, and trapping 57 persons beneath the debris of their homes. More than 600 rescue workers including police, fireman and soldiers dug furiously to release the victims. Photo shows The scene as rescue parties dig amonst the debris trying to rescue soma of the buried people.
