"The Naked Truth" Goes To Court: A painting of a woman on a wall 30ft. long by 19ft. high led a claim for £100 damages and an injunction at Brentford County Court. Auto-Kleam Stainers Ltd., of Hounslow, complained that their next door neighbour Mr. C.V. Gray, trading as H and H motors Ltd. of Staines Road, Hounslow, had has a picture painted on the wall that was their property. It showed a nearly nude woman lying amid flowers with the words "The Naked Truth" is revealed by us in major defects of all cars". The Judge announced that it was an artistic work and Mr. Gray claimed that the public took more notice of the nude lady than they would of a car painted on the wall. He also claimed that the wall was a boundary and therefore he was entitled to put a picture on his side of it. Before adjourning the case the Judge said "This is the naked truth from my point of a view - that this artistic picture is vastly better than a blank wall". Photo shows The painting that caused the Court case. The lower half is an attractive garden scene. The naked lady is above. Standing in front of the painting are Mr.C.V. Gray, its owner (right) and the artist who painted it Mr. J. Stephenson.
