Britain Leads In Radio Astronomy: The ears that seen the Universe for radio emmisions from distant galaxies and quars are Britain's famous telescopes at Jodrell Bank near Macclesfield, Cheshire, whose vigilance picks up the faintest sound waves. Every nation in the world is indebted to Jodrell Bank for tracking their rockets and satellites. In charge of the Jodrell Bank station is Britain's top spaceman, Professor Sir Bernard Lovell. Jodrell Bank is linked to the Atlas Computer Laboratory in the University of Manchester 25 miles to the north. An operator is here preparing the perforated tape prior to the transmission of data.
