Distinguished service medals for Bavarian soldiers . On January 17th, 1978 the Mountain Engineer Battalion 8 in Brannenburg (FRG) got the "Recompense al Merito Civile" (Distinguished Service medal ) by the Italian Minister for Interior, Francesco Cossiga. He gave the medals to five officers , deputy for their soldiers. In 1976 these soldiers helped in the seismic area of Friaul in Italy , where in that time 1000 human beings lost their lives and 100 villages were destroyed by an earthquake . Four weeks the soldiers helped to resque people and to clear the streets. Photo shows The five officers , who got the decorations deputy for their soldiers .
