1975 Press Photo Security Van Used in Robbery Dusseldorf

Biggest bank robbery in Germany since the War: The biggest bank robbery in Germany since the War, took place in Dusseldorf on February 26th. 73. Gunter Heinemann, the 29 year old driver for a security firm, made off with 3,79 million DM. This theft had probably been planned for some time. Heinemann was one of 4 drivers of the two vans ordered to transport the money. While his and colleagues were drinking coffee in the canteen (waiting for the money), he pretended stomach-acne, went to the toilet and from there he collected the money and disappeared. It was only after some time that his colleagues started looking for him, after 3/4 hour that reported his desappearance to the Police. They found no trace of the theif or of his accomplice, but they found 210 000 DM , which Heinesmann, in his haste had overlooked, in the abandoned security van.
