Description
Daring Mail Robbery In London: Bandits last night ambushed a Post Office mail van in the tunnel which runs under the Strand into Kingsway, and got away with registered mail worth about £30,000, after blocking the entrance to the tunnel with "road closed" signs. They coshed the van driver and stole 80 mailbags. 40 minutes after the raid the Post Office driver, Mr. Walter Smith, aged 67, was dumped from the bandit's car outside a Stepney Hospital. He had head injuries. Photo shows Police seen guarding the Post Office van inside the tunnel - after the robbery.
