Lock of Nelson's Hair sold at Sotheby's: A look of Nelson's hair contained in a mourning ring, was sold at Sotheby's today. The ring is inscribed "To Lieut.Rotely, RM, of HMS Victory,110 guns, by his Swansea friends, as a tribute of esteem for his bravery at Trafalgar". Lt, Rotely out the lock from Nelson's head and in one of the letters sold with the ring he describes the incident:"On the morning after his death i want below to view the body and to procure a lock of hair as a memento, but Capt. Hardy had been before me and had out off the whole with the exception of a small lock at the back of the neck which i redeived.The ring, including some medals and papers, was sold for £190.
