Exhibition of American Primitive art in London. An Exhibition of American primitive Art ~~70 - 1954 is being held at the White chapel Art Gallery - throughout the month of June. It has been organised by the Smi~hsonian Institution in Washington for the U.S. Information service in London. Most of the Exhibits are from museums and private collections throughout the United states. Photo shows Portrait of James Francis Smith by Isaac Sheffield (1795-1945). The in ~cription reads "James F. Smith, born December 19 1831. He is represented here in the clothing which he wore when he disembarked from the ship Chelsea on October 12. 1837 after his ocean journey from the South seas Island ~esolation, aged 5 years 10months. His coat ~s made from Penguin skins.
