1959 Press Photo Baby Giraffe Named Grumpy Born At London Zoo

The Zoo's 6Ft. 8 Ins. Baby: The female Giraffe born to "Grumpy" and her mate "Goofy" on November 1st, was on view at the London Zoo for the first time today. She has been named "Mary" by the Head Kasper in charge of Giraffes, Mr. George Robinson, who is a great admirer of Mary Bignall, the athlete who has been chosen sportswoman of the year by the Sport Writers' Association. At birth "Mary" stood six foot two inches and she is growing fast: she now measures 6' 8". Photo shows "Mary", the baby giraffe pictured at the Zoo today with her mother "Grumpy".
