1955 Press Photo Atom-Sprayed Warship Atomic Warfare Demonstration Cumberland

Atom-sprayed warship: A-bomb fall-out was represented by a small quantity of radioactive liquid aprayed on H.M.S. Cumberlamd, British cruiser fitted with the wash-down system for atomic warfare. Two U.S. Navy representatives watched the tests which a British Admiralty spokesman said subjected the crew to "less radiation than that froma luminous watch." Photo shows H.M.S. Cumberland sprays herself clean of the atomic liquid in the Mediterranean. The crew remained under cover during the tests.
