Press Photo Female Loggerhead Turtle Laying Eggs

A huge female loggerhead turtle, partially covered by the sand she has displaced in digging her nest hole, lays her eggs in the dry sand of a Florida beach. On summer nights these giants of the sea crawl up out of the surf and above the high tide mark. Once egg laying begins, the turtles are seemingly oblivious to their surroundings and turtle watchers can closely observe this ancient ritual of perpetuation.
