Crowds Wait At beachy Head For Big Crash After 50,000 - Tons Of Chalk Fall Into Sea: Police kept watch at Beachy Head today as the cracked cliffs threatened to crash 450-feet into the sea. Crowds of people stood by where great cracks have been discovered after 50,000 tons of chalk, loosened by rainfall crashed into the sea last night. Officials estimate that when this fall takes place it will carry away at least 200,000 tons of cliff. Photo Shows: The scene at Beachy Head today showing a huge section of the chalk cliffs which is in danger of crashing into the sea at any moment. The Beachy Head lighthouse can be seen in the background.
