Crowds Wait At beachy Head For Big Crash After 50,000 - Tons Of Chalk Fall Into Sea: Police kept watch at Beachy Head today as the cracked cliffs threatened to crash 450-feet into the sea. Crowds of people stood by where great cracks have been discovered after 50,000 tons of chalk, loosened by rainfall crashed into the sea last night. Officials estimate that when this fall takes place it will carry away at least 200,000 tons of cliff.
