Peruvian earthquake of May 31st 1970 victims estimated at 50,000: Aerial views of Yungay and Ranrechirca, two small towns completely covered by an avalanche of earth & rocks caused by the earthquake are the most revealing as to the size and destruction of this catsatrophy. The Most affected area was the valley of the Santa River, a very beautyful but narrow valley between the cordilleras. The Earthquake caused the land slide from the Huascaran mountain, the highest in peru. The Legend; "Aqui eatuvo Yungay X Palza de Armas" means "here was the town of Yungay and the Main Square". Most of the other photographs show to destruction in the small town of Huaraz.
