1977 Press Photo Annual 85 K Vasa Race Held

The 51st Vasa Race in Swede-King Carl Gustaff takes part: Over the weekend the 85km annual Vasa race was held. This year record breaking 11,000 skiers entered the field at Salen. Among the skiers were a great deal of the International cross country elite and Sweden's King Carl Gustaf. The race was won by Ivan Garanin of the Soviet Union, who made the 85 km in 4 hours and thirty minutes. The King crossed the finishing line after 8hours and twelve minutes as number 5708, leaving half the field, Photo shows Queen Silva watches the start of the Vasa race in which her husband took part with her is the Governor Bengt Olsson.
