P.C. SHOT DEAD - TWO WOUNDED - THEN MAN IS ARRESTED. THE MURDERED POLICEMAN... Armed police hunting a gunman who murdered a policeman and wounded a police Inspector and another Constable - at Oxenholme, Westmorland - yesterday - shot and arrested a man in a gun battle near the Station. The dead man is P.C. GEORGE RUSSEL (36) and the wounded men are INSPECTOR ALFRED HARRISON AND p.c.j. ARCHIBALD - the latter being in a serious condition. KEYSTONE PHOTO SHOWS: The dead policeman P.C. GEORGE RUSSEL photographed while on holiday with his wife JOAN. Their last holiday - in July 1963 ended in tragedy - when their seven year old STEPHEN was drowned.
