First Pictures Inside The New No. 10 Downing Street: For the first time since the reconstruction work -started in August 1960 and completed last September, photographers have been allowed to take pictures of the interior of No. 10 Downing Street, official residence of the Prime Minister. The aim of the reconstruction work, which cost over `1,000,000, was to make the structure safe, while retaining the historic character of the house, and the restoration work has been carried out by using many of the original fixtures and fittings. Photo shows A view of the Cabinet Room, showing the Prime Minister's chair pulled out on the right.
