Description
Ultra Modern Oxford Street And London Too. The Street Of The Future Is Possible: A revolutionary attempt at transforming congested Oxford-street, in London, has been planned by SPUR (Society for the Promotion of Urban Ronewal). If successful, the plan would blanket London thoroughfares in a network of travelators, raised sidewalks, acres of new parking space and wider roads. Traffic problems, say the architects, will be virtually finished and they claim their plan is the obvious solution to the present traffic/parking worry. In effect the scheme calls for shop windows being lifted to second storey level whereupon they raised sidewalk will automatically facilitate present shoppers needs. Parking space will be then used to increase the width of the roadway. Photo shows By Night. A view along shoppers' way by Norah R. Glover, showing the high-level showcases and adjoining buildings. The view illustrates how it would appear at night time.
