Description
English lessons for Migrant children.: An experiment in Bradford, Yorks, to give young Indian and Pakistani children a head start in education has proved so successful that some now speak English better than English children. The city has set up eight special centres for infants aged five-plus who speak little, if any, English. About 900, orged on by teams of dedicated teachers are taught to speak English properly. Only then are they transferred to conventional primary schools to take their places as equals with children born and bred in Bradford. Photo shows "What are You?", Miss Linda Lambert, head of the Barkerend language centre in Bradford, asks Kuljeet Kaur. "I am a doctor," replies Kuljeet, whose sister, Prom, learns her English dressed as a nurse.

Photo measures 10 x 8 inches.

Photo is dated 9-10-1973.
