NATO Martime Demonstration (Exercise Sally Forth) A major demonstration of maritime power arranged any the ministry of defence Ministers of the NATO countries, took place today of the East Coast of Scotland. The demonstration in which some 25 British Ships and 60 aircraft took part, included: air operations from HMS Ark Royal, air to surface attacks by RN and RAF aircraft; anti-submarine exercise by frigates, Sea King helicopters and Nimrod aircraft; there was an amphibious warfare demonstration with Royal Marines from the Commando Carriers HMS Bulwark and the assault ship HMS Intrepid, including an assault launch of Commando carrying helicopters and landing craft, and a take off and landing of the RAF's VSTOL Harries. The host on this occasion was Lord Carrington, the Defence Minister Photo Shows Fly past by Wasp Helicopters, in background is H.M.S. Fife.
