Preparing the Opening of Parliament. Searching the Vaults.: Ducking beneath the beams - the Beefeaters - or Yeoman of the Guard - to give them their correct title carry out the traditional ceremony of searching the vaults of Parliament before the State Opening of Parliament by H.M. The Queen. This ceremony stems back to 1605 when a plot to blow up Parliament as it was being opened by King James 1 was discovered. Guy Fawkes was discovered by the searchers in the vaults.
