Mushrooms are more than a delicacy â Mushrooms are suitable additions to the nutrition of man for they contain 3-4 percent of digestible proteins, vitamins, etc. The cultivation for champignons, and other kinds of mushrooms is a rapidly developing branch of the agricultural production. Production of mushrooms has risen from 50,000 tons in 1950 to over one million tons a year at the present. Modern, highly mechanized technology of work is being used in mushroom cultivation. In Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union, mushroom growing has been developing since 1965. The laboratory of mushroom cultivation, the department of experimental mycology of the Microbiological Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences has for several years been cooperating with scientific institutes of the Academy of Sciences in the Soviet Union where nutrient are being tested. Scientific workers of the laboratory have also established contacts with other institutes in the Soviet Union. The outcome of the cooperation are the new facts found on the mushroom cultivation, new methods of preparing nutrient subtrates for mushroom, etc. Photo Shows: Testing the air movement by a catathermometer in the experimental champignon-growing laboratory.
