50,000 people gathered at Abidjan's city stadium for ceremonies marking the First Earth Run, the International Year of Peace and President Felix Houphouet-Boigny's 81st birthday. The First Earth Run global torch relay left New York on September 16 on an 86-day journey marking the International Year of Peace and the 40th anniversary of UNICEF.
