German Passion Play Village Is Scene Of Colourful National Costume Feast: Oberammergau, the little village which nestles at the feet of the Alps and which is world famous as the setting of the spectacular Passion Play was the scene of another colourful spectacle when the National Costume festival was held through the streets of the picturesque village. 3,000 people came from all over Bavaria, from Ettal, Mittenwala, Partenkirchen, Walchensee all wearing their own district costume. The theme of the procession was Harvest thanksgiving. Afterwards there were displays of old fashioned Bavarian folk dances like Drahrer, Landler and Schuhplattler (the famous dance where the hands, thighs and knees are slapped), accompanied by Bavarian music.
