World's First Plastics Ship will be British: A British breakthrough in developing a form of plastics structures suitable for the building of ships is disclosed by Bristol Th~rneyeref's Ltd. A full scale test section of a 600 ton ship has been built under Navy contract as the necessary precursor to building a complete plastics ship. Photo shows Hull skin with integral bearing members completed and awaiting assembly of decks and bulkheads. At the top of the picture can be seen the travelling gantry and bridge platforms of the mechanises lay up equipment.
