Perky the misguided cuckoo â Misguided. Thatâs Perky, the cuckoo. He thinks heâs a parrot and behaves like one. âœIâm sure heâs round the twist,â said his owner five-year old Kelsay Smith, âœwhen I take him for a walk he rides on my shoulder, just like Capân Bones in Treasure Island. We only put him in a cage at night and thatâs for his own safety. He even squawks like a parrot when heâs hungryâ. Perky was a victim of the Devon floods. He was found starving and dirty by some Exmouth, Devon, boys and taken to Exmouth Zoo, run by Kelsayâs parents. Some careful handling, and an hourly diet of bread and milk, spoon-fed, and Perky was soon back to normal. He was offered his freedom, but prefers to stay at the zoo. Each night he goes home with Kelsay to her parentsâ flat, riding on Kelsayâs shoulders. Perky, unlike parrots, canât talk, âœbut Iâm sure heâs attempting to read,â said Kelsay. âœI canât pick up a book before he flies over.â H/Keystone
