Appeal To Be Launched To Save York Minster: An appeal is to be launched next month following the appearance of cracks in the main piers and foundations of York Minster. `2 million is needed to save the cathedral. The central tower could collapse within 15 years unless work is carried out immediately. Photo shows A York Minster policeman (employed to check security and guard against possible vandalism), seen checking the excavations inside the minster made in order to inspect the foundations to find the possible cause of cracks.
