London's emergency flood warning scheme: London's flood warning system opened today with the arrival of the season's first tides. Whenever danger threatens two engineers will go on round the clock duty at the Ministry of Agriculture in London to alert Police local authorities and emergency services. Photo shows three tide recorders are situated in the "Flood Room" , for Alan Allison, engineer, is seen checking one of the recorders, showing a high in tide.
