Bronx, N.Y.--Cleo, one of the Bronx Zoo's six Kodiak brown bears, guards her two new cubs. Born Feb. 2, the cubs are Cleo's first. Though inexperienced in the art of motherhood, Cleo is proving to be a model mother, keeping the bubs war, protecting them and guiding them carefully to her breast to feed. The mother bear and her cubs are now being kept in isolation in a separate den but will be visible to the public later this spring.
