Chinchilla farm in Munich: Breeder Josef Zettl opened the first chinchilla farm in Europe about two weeks ago. 20 animals had come by plane to Munich in order to bring foreign currency for Germany under the expect care of the chinchillas are rodents. They have the most expensive fur of the world. The value of the animals kept for breeding is 3.000 -DM. If a couple does not bring forth young within a year they will be exchanged without any payment for avoiding inbreeding. The fur is sold for 300 DMarks. They need 200 to 250 furs one coat. As Josef Zettl told here are now only 9 of these expensive fur coats. One has Josef Stalin's widow, one the wife of Agakhan and another the late Queen mother Mary of of England. Josef Zettl's animals have members have numbers. The couple AH L 4 and AH K 11 had their first young in Munich. It is just three hours old. Chinchillas are very cheap in feeding. One animal coats about 10 DM per year. They have a daily bath in sand and may have young every 111 days. The original home of the chinchillas are the Andes. The Inka-princes already wore chinchilla furs. In early centuries the chinchilla was the fur of kings who strictly prohibited the common people to have the furs manufactured for themselves.
