Nesting Swan holds up a motorway: A nesting Swan who has held up the work on a new road, hatched out her first cygnet yesterday. But the work on further construction of by-pass at Beccles, Suffolk, will have to wait for some time yet as builders must not move the protected birds from the planned road until all the young are born. There are still six eggs still to be hatched. Photo shows the first cygnet emerges from under the wings of the mother, with the bulldozer looming in the background.

Photo measures 6.5 x 10 inches.

Photo is dated 6-19-1980.
