Dominican Monk awarded Nobel Prize for Peace: The nobel prize for peace 1958 was awarded to the Dominican monk, Father George's Pire from Belguim in Acknowledgment of his activities as promoter and organizer of "European Villages" for displaced persons. Father Pire is in addition an eminent sociologist. Photo shows Father Georges Pire opening a village for displaced persons near Saarbrucken in September 1958. On left M. Robert Schuman who presided over the ceremony.
