1968 Press Photo Lauris Osbourne's Homemade 31 Foot Sloop

The atlantic challenger from the back garden. On the River Itchen near Southampton yesterday went the 31fdt. trimaran Genesis, Mr. Lauris Osborne's home-made for the single-handed transatlantic race which starts from Plymouth in June 1st. Mr. Osbourne ha worked 18 hours a day over a year to build his 1300 sloop-rigged craft Friends and neighbors helped with the construction in his back garden in Southampton. He has to make a 500-mils qualifying trip before acceptance for the race. Photo shows Mr. Laurie Osborne, 33, celebrates with champagne yesterday.
