A twelve metres high siren: For tests, a 12 metres high siren has been erected in Garching near Munich. Its piercing sound - produced by pressed air - is to be heard in a distance to 3 kilometres. It is planned that the former sirens are to be displaced by these novel "siren towers" if the tests made with this one in Garching will be successful. For the youngsters of Garching, it's always a "loud" fun when every Saturday at noon test alarm is sounded. We can only hope that they will never near the siren for serious reason.

Photo measures 6 x 8.25 inches.
