The luckiest boy alive - 11-year old Davy Davies is the "luckiest boy alive For five minutes yesterday he dung to a greasy pole above a torrent which would have swept him to his death. His feet were resting on a 6ins- wide ledge as he yelled for help in a sewer at Isleworth, Middlesex. He was playing with friends at the Mogden sewage works, when he kicked a bit of tin - and fell down a hole, which, he said, must have been covered by the tin After dropping about 12ft'ž feet he hit water and went under He was in the main channel of the works - a giant 12ft diameter pipe which carries sewage to the recreation centre, Davy, who only learnt to swim last week, saw a light some 250 yards away, and was carried along towards it. "There were a lot of tunnels near
the light all gushing out water," said Davy. "Keeping my head up I saw a gate made for it and got a handhold",
I climbed up about 4ft, and at the top was a greasy pole and he hang on and hoped for the beat, It was a coincidence that saved Davy*a life - for his playmates, on running to get help, met Mr John Cole, who worked at the sewage works. He knew where the next manhole was, and when he got to it he yelled down, and when Davy answered, Mr. Cole lowered a rope to him. Photo Shows: Davy Davies pictured at home after
