70th Birthday of Prof. Maier-Leibnitz: On March 28th. 1981 the famous German nuclear physicist, professor Dr. Heinz Maier-Leibnitz will celebrate his 70th birthday. Born in Esslingen/West Germany he visited the grammar school of this town, then he studied techinical physics and physics in Stuttgart and Gottingen 1935 he confers a doctor's degree at James Franck. After that, Heinz Maier-Leibnitz was active at the Kaiser Wilhelm resp. Max Planck Institute for medical research in Heidelberg. 1952 he went to the TU of Munich as professor for technical physics. He has been a co-initiator and from 1967-71 the first director of the West German-French common institute of Max von Laue and Paul Langevin in Grenoble. From 1974-79 he was president of the West German community of research. Professor Heinz Maier Leibnitz member of numerous national and international scientific academies and companies as well as president of the inter national union for pure and used physics from 1971-1975. He was awarded several times, under that the Bavarian Distinguished Service Order, officer of the Legion of Honour of the Republic of France, the Great Distinguished Service Cross of West Germany, the Austrian Badge of Honour for science and art, Chancellor of the order pour le merite (since 1980), honorary doctor of Vienna and Gre-noble. The nuclear physicist is married with the known journalist.
