75TH BIRTHDAY OF PETER BUCHEL: On April 3rd, 1978 the author Peter Buchel (picture), one of the most famous lyric poets of our time, becomes 75 years. Buchel was born in Berlin studied in Berlin, Freiburg and Vienna literature and philosophy. Since 1924 he published poems in several papers. In 1941 he became a soldier, in 1945 he came back of the Russian war captivity and became director of Arts at the radio network Berlin (till 1947). Since 1949 he was chief-editor of the literature-magazine "Sinn und Form" of the Academy of arts in East-Berlin. In 1962 he had to give up. For nine years he lived in the German Democratic Republic before in 1971 he could remove to the West, with the help of PEN and the academies of Arts in West-Germany and West-Berlin. Today the author, to whom were awarded many honours (e.g. Theodor-Fontane-Price, 1963; medal "Pour la merite", 1976 and the Europalia-literatue-prize, 1977, lives near Freiburg (West-Germany). Works: (poems: 1948-1950), "Die Sternenreuse" (The star's wee? basket, 1967), "Chausseen Chausseen" (Avenues Avenues: 1963), "Gezaehlte Tage" (Counted days; 1972) and "Ausgewaehlte Gedichte" (Chosen poems; 1973).
