Earl Russel in "Sit-down H-Bomb protest. The 88-year-old philosopher, Earl Russel, this afternoon led a "sit-down" demonstration against nuclear weapons, outside the Ministry of Defense, in Whitehall. The demonstration was organised by the Committee of 100 to press home their demand for the immediate scraping of the Polaris agreement with U.S. The U.S. Depot Ship carrying Polaris missiles is expected in the Clyde today. The committee of 100 was formed in October 1960, in response to an appeal by Earl Russell and the Rev. Micheal Scott, and its purpose is to organise non-violent resistance to nuclear war and to the manufacture and use of all weapons of mass destruction by any power.
