Associated press correspondent William Oatis set at liberty contrary to all expectation. AP correspondent William catis was surprisingly discharged from Czech custody. according a directive given by the Czech prime minister zapeotcky. The discharge went into effect on Saturday. 16 may 1953 in July 1951, William oatie had been sentence to ten (10) year prison. a few minutes after twelve o'clock William oats crossed the Czech-germa border. He was complained by us vice - cenoul Mr.Christoper a.squire and by Mr. ant b. king, a member of the us embassy in Prague, choc Slovakia when he arrived at the czech germab border oatis was welcomed by mat m.p.s. and they eyed him during the trig from border to nurem berg Germany in the late afternoon hours of Saturday. 16 may 1955 the vertired AP-correspondent gave the first interview to man German and American are television- broadcasting and news reel reporters and or correspondents. in downright words, he expressed his own gratitude and gratefulness to the us government and to many us citizens oatis said he was NT badly tarted when in a Czech prison. but he mentioned. 'When they screened me they 'used police methods. which are usual in some counties. and in others are unaccustomed ".
