Half-Way House Reached On The "Great Uhuru Railway" An important milestone was passed in the construction of the "Great Uhuru Railway," as the Chinese - built line from Zambia's Copperbelt to the Tanzanian coast at Dar-es-salaam is to be known, when it recently crossed the Tanzania/Zambia border. 970 kilometers out of a total of 1860 kilometers of track has been laid - and estimates show that work is up[ to 18 months ahead of schedule. Celebrations to mark the arrival of the ~165 million sterling railway at the "half-way house" at Tunduma Nakande Tanzanian President Julius Neyerere, Zambian President Kenneth Kunda, Chinese envoys an officials- and a large crowd of Zambians and Tanzaians mingling with thousands of Chinese workers given the day off from their construction labours, dancing and singing songs in praise of the railway and its builders.Photo Shows Feet resting on the sleepers of the railway that will link, their neighboring countries, President Kaunda and President Nyerere chat quietly together.
