President Nyerere with burning torch: Many thousand Tanzanians celebrated the 12th. birthday in Dar as Salaam, of Tanu (Tanganyika African National Union), Tanzanian's ruling party. A mass procession was held to mark this day - and later their was a big meeting which was addressed by President Nyerere. Photo Shows President Nyerere holding the burning Freedom torch at the Jungwani fields presented to his by Tanzania Youths who ran with this torch from Butima, Nyerere's birthplace, about 1000 miles from Dar es Salaam.
