Tanzania's Ruling Party Celebrates 20th Anniversary; The Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) party was founded by Dr. Julius K. Nyerere - now the President of Tanzania - on the 7th July, 1954, and every year Tanzanians celebrate the seventh day of the seventh month in a festival they call "Saba-Saba" (Seven-seven). This year, however the celebrations were special, for they celebrated the 20th year of the founding of Tanu - two decades of the application of the Socialist principals of the Party so dear to the heart of President Nyerere.
