1970 Press Photo West Germany's Foreign Secretary Walter Scheel

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
Mr. Scheel's policy of "contacts to the East block": What Mr. Egon Bahr tried to do in Moscow on the political scene, Foreign Secretary of the Federal Republic, Walter Scheel, is doing back home on the dance floor: improving East-West relations. On the yearly reception of the Foreign Office Mr. Scheel was doing his part to establish better contacts to the East: he was dancing with the wife of the Soviet Ambassador to the Federal Republic, Mrs. Natalie Zarapkin (photo). The reception, which took place on the eve of Mr. Scheel's 51st birthday, was given in the Augustusburg castle in Bruehl/Rhine. Representatives of the Federal Government, the diplomatic corps, and distinguished Representatives from Germany and abroad congratulated Mr. Scheel on the eve of his birthday.

Photo measures 8.25 x 6 inches.

Photo is dated 7-9-1970.
