1974 Press Photo Japan's latest Submarine "Kuroship"

Japan's Latest Submarine: The submarine "Kuroship" (Black Current), named after the warm dark current which flows off the coast of Japan under-goes her sea trials in the Pacific before being handed over to the No 2 Submarine Group of the Maritime Self-Defence Force in Yokosuka. The "Kuroshio", 1850 displacement tons, has a surface speed of 12 knots submerged, powered by two diesel engines. She carries six torpedo tubes, and up-to-date electronic equipment. Built at the Kobe Shipyard by Kwasaki Heavy Industries, the sub cost 5 million yen.
