Defendants in secrets Case Acquitted. The "Sunday Telegraph" secrets case ended with the acquittal of all four defendants at the old Bailey Yesterday on charges of unlawfully communicating a report on the Nigerian civil war in contravention of section II of the official Secrets Act of 1911. Three of the accused, Mr. Brian Roberts, 64, Editor of the Sunday Telegraph, Col. Douglas Cairns, 56, and Mr. Jonathan Aiken, 28, sat close to the dock as applications were made for costs. The fourth accused was the Sunday telegraph. Photo shows Col Douglas Cairns, 56, senior British observer of the Nigerian War, Mr. Brian Roberts (centre), 64, editor of the Sunday telegraph and Mr. Jonathan Aiken, 28, a freelance journalist, after their acquittal yesterday in the old Bailey secrets trail.
