NATO Tanks Plough Up German Fields: As can be seen from these pictures tanks taking part in NATO's Crusader 80 exercise have been inflicting considerable damage on fields in the main battle zone in West Germany. It is mainly sugar beet crops which have been damaged, but German farmers have been appeased by the payment of compensation equalling the price their crops would have fetched on the markets. Photo shows Tanks and armoured personnel carriers amass in a field in West Germany leaving deep track marks.
