Description
Work in Progress on the Chiswick fly over. Expected to take two and a half years to complete: The construction of the Chiswick fly over at the junction of Chiswick Road W. when the Cromwell Road extensions joins the Great West Road is now in progress. The scheme incorporates a roundabout 400 ft. in diameter as well as the fly over which is half a mile long. Cost of construction is estimated to be about a £820,000 and is expected to take about two and a half years to complete although part is expected to be in use within 12 months. In the meantime control of the traffic during rush periods is in the hands of a policeman in a tower, overlooking the area. Photo shows a forty five ft. crane is used in construction of the first section of the flyover over Wellesley Road - Chiswick.

Photo measures 10.25 x 8 inches.

Photo is dated 11-11-1957.
